Our Verdict

It is not easy to select a winner in a labs in which all the products produce similar results, and are on par with quality, features and value for money. The only way to help you decide is by listing some of the features that stood out with each manufacturer's monitor, and briefly explain would you should be expecting if you are in the market to purchase a 15" LCD monitor.

  • The ADI Microscan 610 packaging was good, the warranty with 3 years on-site is a definite plus point, ergonomically pleasing, optional USB, and last but not least, the viewable angle.
  • The Belinea 10 15 30, the packaging as the ADI was good, the 3 year on-site warranty inclusive of backlight, extra options in OSD menu, excellent viewable angle, and a tremendous street price of £613.00 plus VAT.
  • The CTX PV511S, the inclusion of the USB ports tops the hits list. Settings using OSD menu was easy; tilt swivel was excellent the price of £699.00 plus VAT may seem expensive initially, but the inclusion of USB takes the monitor into the competitive stakes.

So, what makes a great LCD choice? To begin with these are not cheap 15" Monitors, they are competitive 15" LCD monitors, at this price you could possibly purchase two 17" high-end quality monitors and probably get change. You need to be sure you really want one. The viewable angle, picture quality- this is important as you need to check very carefully to ensure how many cells are faulty - looking for "bright" and "dark cells" you are unlikely to find a perfect panel. The after sales warranty is important and the best option you are likely to get currently is 3 years on-site parts and labour (no hidden extra's). The USB option is excellent as along as it does not come at a premium, this will allow you to connect other USB peripherals without further investment. A 15" LCD should be able to support a resolution of 1024 x 768 @ 72Hz refresh as a minimum - test the monitor at this resolution and ensure you are satisfied. Last but least the price has to be competitive. Happy Hunting!

We have not given any awards in these labs, as the monitors were very much alike, and all had their pros and cons. We felt awarding one manufacturer would not in this instance be appropriate. As an overall rating the monitors featured were competitively priced and of high quality. You would not go wrong to purchase from these manufacturers as they all have a reputation of producing excellent monitors.
