Performance

The results that we've achieved are difficult to interpret because they have no real correlation to the actual specs of each system. There should be no way that a Pentium III should be running twenty percent slower than an Athlon system running at the same clock speed. Both the Winstone and the BAPco results show this so there's no real argument. The probable cause for this is a question mark over the hard drive and memory in the Avanti rather than a general fault with these types of systems.

Figure 2. shows the Protek machine way out in front on the Winstone results which agrees with Figure 3., the SYSmark 2000 benchmark. Where they differ is mainly for the Big Red machine, putting it equal with the Protek under SYSmark and still behind under Winstone. Equally the Big Red is all over the place with only 64mg in it as well if we're comparing the results. The only real explanation to this is that BAPco isn't as reliant on the Hard Drive as Winstone. Figure 5. definitely shows that the Big Red has got a problem compared to the Protek, but unfortunately we were unable to get a result out of the Avanti. A Disk Winbench of 4530 is very good but about right for machines of this kind of specification.

Figure 4. shows the CPU Winbench results, which again yields very strange answers. The Avanti is WELL below what it should be which may explain the poor overall benchmarks but we were unable to get the machine to complete the Winbench tests properly so that result may be unreliable.

Figure 1. gives the 3D Mark 2000 results which again shows a large difference between the machines with the same video card. The Big Red machine wouldn't give us a proper result, but we did get a result of 1690 which is again well below what should be expected.

What is clear is that the Ultra MX ran away with all the results, giving a very quick machine for the configuration.
