Our Verdict

The impact that the AMD Duron has had since its initial launch is not far short of incredible. The low to middle end of the market needed what can only be termed as a kick in the backside to accelerate it to the next level, after it's stagnation for the last fourteen months, Intel were content with sitting back and basking in it's own glory. The Duron launch was not only timely, but had success written all over it.

Not, so long ago we carried out a review on the Duron 700MHz and Duron 750MHz and this is what our conclusion was:

The entry/mid range processor has been a long while coming from AMD, the Duron has made the waiting worthwhile, and in comparison to the 'Coppermine' based Celeron the Duron turns on the heat and you know what they say about heat; 'if you can't take it get out of the kitchen' The Duron is an exclusive design and 'not a cut down version' of it's big brother, as such we are sure the Duron will be adopted well, and AMD deserves the recognition the Duron will bring, we have no hesitation in awarding the Duron our One2Surf Excellence award. Well-done AMD.

Have we changed our minds? not likely the Duron 800MHz is a fresh of breath air, we just hope AMD continues to wet all our appetites with newer Duron launches and keeps the value for money aspect of the processors at the top of their list at all times.
